Compare and Contrast Intervention
Please take some time to compare and contrast Laurie and Jessie's addictions. Remember Laurie was addicted to pain killers and Jessie was the bulimic that was addicted to food. Think critically about how their addictions are similar, but then again all together different in their manifestations.

Today in class we watched a movie about Emily, a young woman suffering from anorexia. In the documentary we watched Emily's daily life and the struggles that she has been fighting for the past 8 years. Using the information that you learned today in class about drive reduction theory explain how Emily reduces the drive of feeling overweight and restores her body back to homeostasis in her mind. Use specific examples in your answer and make sure you explain drive reduction theory. Also explain how a drug addict and Emily's battle with anorexia are similar and different. Also, tell me what Emily's drug is.
Please answer all the questions to receive full credit.

Intervention Application
Over the past few classes we have been watching numerous addicts battle their addictions. As we have watched we have learned that the addict was almost always triggered by something to start their usage and usually it was out of their control. Tell me some of the most frequent triggers seen and how seeing them and the havoc they caused effected you and what you are going to do to make sure you don't make the same mistakes in your future family or even now in your own life. Give me at least 2 and your action steps.

Substance dependent
Codependent
Trigger
Withdraw
Tolerance
*To receive full credit you must define each term and give an example.(It does not have to be the exact definition I gave you. Shorten them up if you can.) *

What would you do?
What is Fatal Familial Insomnia? What are some of the symptoms of the disease, how long can it go undetected, and is it genetic? If you had the disease would you want to find out that you had it or would you not? Make sure you tell me why!!!!

Awakenings
In class we have been talking about states of consciousness and the two types; altered state and waking consciousness. In the movie awakenings the patients of Dr. Sayer "wake up" due to the administration of the drug L-dopa. After the patients are awake they deal with the reality that their life has passed them by. Put yourself in their shoes, would you rather be left in the altered state or woken up 30 years later knowing that your life has changed, but at least you are aware and have the remaining years of your life.

Theory of Knowledge
What theory of knowledge do you agree with? Do you think Socrates theory that all knowledge is innate and that through reasoning we can access knowledge or John Locke's theory that the mind is a blank slate and we access knowledge through experience? Please tell me why you feel this way and use examples to support your reasoning.

Welcome
This blog will be dedicated to the responses of the students in my psychology class. I hope that you use it and jump on board because it is apart of your grade. You will have to respond weekly to a question that I post about a topic we have been discussing in class. Your response will be graded for content and correct grammar etc... I can tell when you write fluff or copy the text book. Don't do that! Don't worry I will show you how to begin
