Nature vs Nurture

Do you think that nature plays a larger role in development or does nurture? Support your opinion with the bible or general examples. HINT, Nature means your genes your genetic make-up. Nurture think your life experiences and the environment around you.

Psalm 139: 13-14 says, “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” I believe that nature plays a larger role in development than nurture. Because God is our Creator, He made us the way that He wanted. Each person is made differently to fulfill a different purpose. Nature, how a person is made up genetically, impacts a person much more than nurture, how a person adapts to his surroundings. God created us with the abilities that we have, so as we grow up we live out what He has planned for us to do. This reflects the idea of nature. The world around us also impacts us to a certain point. What we see, hear, and experience makes an impression on us but not enough to take away our God given traits. It can however take us away from the path God has set out for us to follow while using the abilities He’s given us. Nature makes a larger impression on development than nurture considering God has given us abilities before we were born, but our surroundings change every day.

The idea nature versus nurture is a enduring issue in psychology. The nature side means that as a individual we are a product of our inborn tendencies; the nurture side means that the environment shapes our thoughts and behavior. I think that nurture plays a larger role in development because it makes more sense that your environment shapes your growth and you have to train for what you want. Also that what we think and do is based on our background. To me it does not make much since that how we are is not because of how hard we work, but just how good or bad our genes are. For instance David was born a small shepard boy who defeated the huge warrior Goliath with just a stone. David's genes and inborn tendencies would have not said he could defeat Goliath, but because of God and his life growing up he learned how to use a slingshot. This story also supports nature because God allowed him to have the ability to be a leader and kill Goliath. In life God is the one who gives us the talent and opportunity to succeed with what we want to accomplish in life as long as we follow him.

A person’s personality, abilities, and characteristics are developed naturally through genetics. I believe nature plays the biggest role in a persons development because genetics are what make up a person. Many characteristics or traits a person has could be hereditary from their parents. I think that even if a child is separated from their parents at birth they can still posses certain traits of their parents because of the same DNA. I think a person’s background and genetics has the greatest influence on their development.

If a person has diabetes most likely it is hereditary and is found in their family medical history. Their environment did not cause this person to be diabetic but their genetics did. In this example this disease is going to impact the person’s environment as they develop not the other way around.

Environment and a person’s surrounding can have a big influence on that person but I don’t think it helps develop who they are. The environment that most people are in daily results from their genetics. For example if a person is athletic there environment may be daily practices and games. This is a result of having genes that gave them the abilities to play sports. Not everyone is capable of being athletic and although training your muscles and body have a big role in it I think it originates from a persons genes.

The issue of nature verses nurture is a popular question in psychology. The question is weather the way a person is raised and things that a person went threw has more to do with development, or is it nature and it was just Gods plan and that was how you were made. My personal opinion on the is that it is more nature. I believe that God made each person individually and differently then every other person. He gave some people characteristics that he didn’t give other people. This is relevant in the movie that we watched about the sprinter. He is faster and more agile then the common person. He may have been raised in a athletic family and did things like that but I believe that God built him in a way that he would be better at running then he would be at other things. Each person is different and unique and I think nature plays more of a role in making a person who they are then nurture.

The idea of nature versus nurture is a key factor in psychology. I think that both genes and your environment play a role in how a person is as they grow up. We are made in the image of God, and he has made us the way he wants us. He has a plan for our lives and our bodies are given the genes to accomplish that plan. The way we grow up also affects who we are and what we are good at. Events in people's lives can force them to do certain things and act certain ways. Bad experiences or a harsh childhood would make someone want to work harder to be successful in life, while someone who grew up having everything at their feet wouldn't have that work ethic. Michael Oher is a great example of this. He grew up in a rough part of town going from foster home to foster home, and he had very little education. After being taken in by a caring family, Michael learned how to play football. He soon became one of the best offensive tackles, going to Ole Miss to play football and now playing for the Ravens. Michael was huge, his nickname being "Big Mike". No doubt Michael Oher's genes played a huge part in his career, but also his background allowed him to work hard and change his life.

Nature vs Nurture is a commonly spoken about topic in psychology. Nature, in the sense of how it plays a role in someone's life, is their inborn tendencies and what they are born with. Nuture, on the other hand, is how our environment shapes our thoughts and behaviors.

Although both situations play roles in developing who a human is, I believe nurture plays a bigger role. Where as nature decides your traits and genes BEFORE you are born, whether you flaunt those traits or not is decided by nurture. Your attitude, actions, and decision making skills are all based off of how you've been raised and what type of environment you've been raised in. For instance, one coming from an abusive environment will more than likely be one of two things, either closed off and stand offish or abusive as well. Although I do believe that God made each individual differently before we were born, I still think that who you end up being in life is based off your surroundings. As it is said in the Bible, God has a plan and purpose for each life that is born in this world BUT fulfilling that plan and purpose is up to that person alone. We all let our environment, surroundings, family, and friends affect our decisions and those decisions affect who we are at the end of each day. Over all, I believe that nurture plays a bigger role in ones life than what nature does.

Nature verses nurture is the debate in which people question to see if an individual is more influenced by their genetic makeup (nature) or by the world around them (nurture). In my opinion I believe that a persons personality, abilities, and being is based on a little bit of both nature and nurture. The example we talked about in class with the two twins, who were seperated at birth; grew up on two different continents yet still were almost the exact same. That example has nothing to do with nurture its all nature, their genetic makeup. However the way you are nurtured growing up can also have a lot to do with what makes you, you. For example if you grow up in a violent home and all you see is violence your whole life, you will probably be a violent person. However the main determiner of who a person will be is God. It says in the Bible that he has a plan for you. If God wants you to do a certain thing with your life, you will do it. He will either bless you with the abilities to do so through your genes, or he will put you in a place that will nuture you to do so. Either way God is in control. I believe more in the nurture side, the way you are influenced by the things around you will most likely determine the kind of person that you are

I think that theres a mix of both when it comes down to the person. You need a good mix of nature (Being born with it) and a good mix of nurture (where you were born and how you grew up). The one that i think is the majority is nurture. If you put your mind to it you can do anything you want. Yes there are some genetics into it but that is not the main reason. Its all about determination.

A common topic that is brought up when it comes to psychology is Nature vs. Nurture. Are people the way they are mostly because of nature, which is their genes and genetic makeup, or is it because of nurture, meaning the environment you are raised in and the types of things the individual experiences.

I think that nurture plays larger into the development of a person more so than nature. Both are involved in the development but nurture, to me, seems to play a bigger role. A persons genetic makeup is the same from the time they are born until the day they are born. But nurture can change and has different ways of influence. The way a person is raised, whether having great parents and being loved as a child and given the attention needed or being abused and neglected, will definitely affect their personality. Someone who has experienced a lot compared to someone who has had a good life and not had many issues in life, will have a different way of thinking and a different mentality.

The environment that someone is surrounded by has a huge influence on that person. We as humans will make our decisions and choices based on the people we are surrounded by and the things that consume our lives. For example, someone who is with their friends a lot and their friends live the life of the party and are constantly getting into trouble, usually the person will soon begin to participate in those actions as well. But if someone spends a lot of time with their family and is always in church and loves the LORD, then they will probably continue to live their life as they are used to.

In the Bible it talks about how God formed you and he created you. This shows how God created you as a product from your mother and father. He chose the genes that you were going to get from either parent. Whether those genes were tall, short, athletic, or clumsy, etc. he still chose them. This makes me think that nature plays a larger role than nurture. I do think nurture does have an effect on whether you use your traits and abilities to their full potential or not. If you have the athletic ability to be a fast runner than that athletic ability is always going to be there. The environment around you can have an influence on whether you choose to exercise your athletic ability or not.

The debate of Nature vs. Nurture is one that has baffled many psychiatrists. The Nature view says that one’s genes and innate knowledge and abilities are what makes that person unique or even extraordinary. Nurture on the other hand believes that how a person grew up and what environment they have lived in is what decides who they are. I believe in both views. An example for me is singing. I was born with the ability to sing, but without the nurturing of different choir teachers over the years and the support of my parents, I would not have been able to cultivate that talent. Some people even if they are born with a talent, are not supported in that talent or given the opportunity to improve. This is where nurturing is very important.

Deciding whether nature or nurture impacts your life more is a big question in psychology. If we are more imparted by nature it from our genes and what we are made up of. If it is nurture it means that we are shaped by the people, places, and experiences that surround us in our everyday life. I believe that nature impacts us more than nurture does. This is an example. In the Bible Joseph and all his brothers were raised the same but turned out very differently. Joseph was a very kind kid who would listen to his father and God. God even gave him the genes to interpret dreams. All of Joseph’s brothers were mean to Joseph. They were plotting to throw him in a pit and tell their father he had died. Though all the brothers were from the same environment and around the same people all the time they were completely different. God has a plan for us and even if we change environments his plan will stay the same. Everyone is made up of different genes God gave them and those genes are never going to change.

I believe that nurture has to do with wether you are homosexual or not. God would not make you gay, because that contradicts His word, and that is not possible. I also think that people who are gay, would like to think that they were born that way, because it probably makes them feel better about themselves. Nurture plays a big roll in homosexuality because if you grow up and all your family members are gay, you would feel like you should also be gay. To wrap it up, I do believe homosexuality is affected by your environment, and not genetics.

I personally believe that nurture, your life experiences and the environment around you, plays a larger role in development than does nature. Nature plays an important role, however I do not believe that your genes and how you are born affect your development more than the things you go through in life and how you are raised in general. For example, a person is not born to be abusive to his or her children. This person more than likely was abused himself as a child. Because this was the way this person was raised, he brought up his children in the same way. Too support this arguement, in the Bible, God tells us that what we surround ourselves with has a great impact on our lives.

Nature and nurture are some of the main aspects in psychology. I believe both of these have a impact on the development of a person. My opinion is that free will is a key aspect of our human nature. We were born in God's image and he gave us free will to have free choice to love an worchip him. Nature has to do with our genetic make-up and nurture has to do with how we were brought up an raised in our personal enviroment. I think these two aspects are equal in the development of a person throughout their life. For a simple example, you can be raised in the church, and active all your life because that was how your enviroment was around you. This has nothing to do with your human nature but it does have an impact on your life and the your development. So these to aspects both have a positive influence on a persons life.

The topic of nature versus nurture is a big question in psychology. I think that both ideas are true and key. However the idea of nurture to me is the bigger factor. Yes people can be born great at something but without nurturing the talent you can not be successful at it. An example of this is one of the greatest soccer players of all time Ronaldinho. He was born with the nature of soccer from his father who was a professional player. If Ronaldinho had not practiced every day on his foot work and skills then he would not be the player the world knows him as because he would never improve. He had coaches, family, and friends there with him to nurture his abilities. While he played at Barcelona he won the world player of the year twice for his goal scoring ability and his impeccable foot work. Without the nurture you can only be so good. Therefore i think that nurture rather thtn nature plays a bigger role.
