Autism is andevelopmental disorder that affects the brain's normal development of social and communication skills. Savant syndrome is a rare condition in which people with 'developmental delays' of the brain, or brain injury, demonstrate profound and prodigious capacities or abilities far in excess of those considered normal. The reason why some autistic individuals have savant abilities is unknown. There are many theories, but there is no evidence to support any of them. For example, Dr. Rimland speculates that these individuals have incredible concentration abilities and can focus their complete attention to a specific area of interest. Admittedly, researchers in psychology feel that we will never truly understand memory and cognition until we understand the autistic savant. An example of an autistic savant is Daniel Tammet. He can recite the number pi to 22,500 decimal places in just over five hours. He learned one of the worlds most difficult languages, Icelandic, in 7 days. (And I've been taking spanish for 4 years and can't speak it well.) He speaks ten languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Finnish, Lithuanian, Romanian, Icelandic, Welsh, and Esperanto. He suffered epileptic seizures as a young child, which he subsequently outgrew following medical treatment. At age twenty-five, he would eventually be diagnosed with Asperger syndrome by Professor Simon Baron-Cohen of the Autism (Spectrum) Research Centre at Cambridge University.

Autism or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), is a range of complex neurodevelopment disorders characterized by social impairments, communication difficulties, and restricted, repetitive, and stereotyped patterns of behavior. Savant Syndrome is a rare condition in which people with developmental delays of the brain and or brain injury demonstrate profound and prodigious capacities and or abilities far in excess of those considered normal. This is not common. The link between Autism and Savant Syndrome is not really certain. Some believe that people who have Savant Syndrome also suffer from autism as well. Researchers such as Dr. Kanner believe that there is more than one general cause for people who have autism. 10% of people who have autism are also linked to having savant syndrome but savants can also occur in other conditions not necessarily just autism; this is very unlikely though. In the article “savant syndrome and autism” Amdin states “that a weakness of a person such as autism can be a reason for their sheer genius.” Most people with autism have a low intellectual level, but if they have savant’s syndrome their intellectual level can vary to even a high score. A person with Autistic Savants is Kim Peek or also known as the real rain man. Kim was born with severe brain damage which led him to not being able to walk alone or even dress his own self. Although Kim cannot do many things, what he can do is utterly astounding. Kim can read two pages at once. He reads the left page with his left eye and the right page with his right eye. He reads both pages in three seconds and can comprehend everything that he reads.

Austism is a disorder of the brain which makes it really hard to communicate with others and form relationships with others. Savant syndrome is when an individual has neurological developmental delays when it comes to social skills and communication skills, but possess astonishing talents in certain, concentrated areas. Autistic people have special areas of focus or sometimes strict routines that they go through and they rarely vary from these areas of focus or strict routines. When you have a person who is a savant, they generally have specific areas where their great talent is expressed. For example, an autistic savant can be good at drawing things from memory and when they do draw things, it is with the upmost precision and accuracy. Another example of an autistic savant's abaility would be playing a piano piece perfectly when they have only heard it once. Ellen Boudreaux is an example of an autistic savant who also happens to be blind. Ellen has exceptional musical abilities. She can listen to a musical piece just once and play it back flawlessly. She also has other abilities, one being her ability to walk around the house and never bump into anything. When she walks around the house, she makes chirping noises that have been compared to sonar for humans. Another ability that she has is she can always tell the time. She cant look at a clock because she is blind but she somehow knows what the exact time is everytime you ask her. When she was little, her mom coaxed her into listening to the automatic time recording when she was eight years old. Ever since then, she has always been able to keep up with the time in her head and has been able to tell you what time it is whenever you ask her.

Autism Spectrum Disorder oh boy that ones a doosy, well here we go. It is a range of complex neurodevelopment disorders characterized by social impairments, communication difficult , and restricted, repetitive, and stereotype patterns of behavior. This is also commonly abbreviated as ASD. Experts have determined that 6 out of 1000 children will have autism and for some reason males are 4 times as likely to develop the disease. A hallmark feature is that people with autism have social impairment.
Savant Syndrome equals random genius skill that is often linked with autism. 50% of savants have autism syndrome. Scientists believe that there is a link between autism and savant syndrome because savant syndrome develops due to delays in the brain, which can be caused by autism.
Leslie Lemke was a savant who had a very rough childhood to say the least. He has several birth defects that led to the loss of his eyes at a young age. He also was not able to walk until age 12. At age 14 Leslie was able to hear anything whether it be music or a conversation and repeat it perfectly. He also played concerts around the world because he could here a song one time and remember it perfectly.

Autism is a medical condition that occurs during childhood that disables the person to have normal communication and social interaction with others. It is a mental disorder which also includes the way they behave and respond to others. Savant syndrome is a medical condition which certain delays in the brain results in advanced and profound abilities that exceed the normal capability. Autism and Savant Syndrome have a unique link between the two disorders.
Savants who have autism don’t suffer from all the restrictions autism brings. According to clinical professors at Wisconsin Medical Society they believe the link it due to the advancement of their right hemisphere of the brain which helps their special talents and skills. The right hemisphere helps memory skills which plays a big part in their talents. While their right hemisphere is advanced their left hemisphere is damage due to pre-birth and post birth incidents. This is what causes them to develop autism or such a disorder along with their profound abilities.
Ellen Boudreaux is a blind autistic savant who has a profound musical ability that allows her to hear any musical piece one and recite and play it perfectly after hearing it once. She was born prematurely and at 6 months she could hum the lullaby perfectly that played above her crib. She couldn’t walk to the age of 4, but when she started she never ran into anything. Ellen is blind however she is able to walk without running into any objects because while she walks she makes a chirping noise similar to a sonar or radar that helps her. Her third ability is that she knows the exact time of day all the time without learning how to tell time or ever seeing a clock. When she was eight years old her mother made her listen to automatic time recording to help her overcome her fear of the telephone.

Autism is a disorder of neural development characterized by impaired social interaction and communication, so this is why most autistic people seem weird. Savant Syndrome is a rare condition in which people with developmental delays of the brain. Both of these diseases seem similar if you only understand the basis of them, but they are different. In an article, it states that “half the people who suffer from Savant syndrome are known to suffer from autism while the rest might suffer brain injuries and diseases.” And in that same article, it also states that “not all savants would suffer from autism and all the autism sufferers need not be savants.” In the article, they said that they can not find the actual link between the two diseases. A man named Orlando Serral is an Autistic Savant. When he was younger, he was playing baseball with his friends when he got hit in the head with a baseball, and was knocked out cold. They did not take him to the hospital and he was fine from then on, but now, he is able to tell you the day of the week, and the weather on that day, everyday since his accident. Since he never had any medical treatment on it, he never actually knew when his unusual ability came about.

One savant that I think me and you can appreciate Mr Hamilton is Kim Peek also known as the rain man. Kim Peek was an American savant. Known as a "megasavant", he had an eidetic memory, but also experienced social difficulties, possibly resulting from a developmental disability related to congenital brain abnormalities. He was the inspiration for the character of Raymond Babbitt, played by Dustin Hoffman, in the movie Rain Man. Unlike Babbitt, Peek probably had FG syndrome.Kim had macrocephaly, damage to the cerebellum, and agenesis of the corpus callosum,a condition in which the bundle of nerves that connects the two hemispheres of the brain is missing; in Peek's case, secondary connectors such as the anterior commissure were also missing. Kim died in 2009 of a heart attack.

Autism is a developmental disorder that appears in the first 3 years of life, and affects the brain's normal development of social and communication skills. Savant syndrome is a rare, but extraordinary, condition in which persons with serious mental disabilities, including autistic disorder, have some 'island of genius' that stands in marked, incongruous contrast to overall handicap. The reason for the link between autism and Savant syndrome is still not known. Researchers and scientists think it exists because autistic people have some sort of savant-like skill in areas such as calculation, music, and art. Gilles Tréhin is an example of someone with savant syndrome. He lives in Urville, a town he made up. When he was five he taught himself to draw three dimensional objects and when he was twelve he began creating his imaginary town. He tried using leggo's to make his city come to life, but he soon came to realize that he could expand Urville much easier by drawing it. He has 250 complete drawings of Urville as well as the towns history upon foundation and a book that has intense details of it.

Autism is the range of complex neurodevelopment disorders, characterized by social impairments, communication difficulties, and restricted, repetitive, and stereotyped patterns of behavior. Savant syndrome is a rare condition in which people with ‘developmental delays’ of the brain and/or brain injury, demonstrate profound and prodigious capacities and/or abilities far in excess of those considered normal. The link between the two is the facts that autists lack a “theory of mind.” They cannot communicate well with others. Some researchers and scientists think this link exists because the mental resources in an autist which would have been used for interaction with other people and communication are being used for this genius brain of theirs. However, another thought of researchers about the link between autism and savant syndrome exists. This is the fact that autists often have repetitive behaviors and interests. This then causes them to repetitively practice the things they are passionate about and become extremely good at those certain things. An example of an autistic-savant is Richard Wawro. He is known for his incredible intricate drawings with only wax oil crayons. When he was three, his parents found out he was somewhat retarded and that he had symptoms of autism. At the same age, he began drawing on a chalk board. He entered many contests starting at age 6 and many people began recognizing his incredible talent. He later had his first exhibition at only 17 years old in Edinburgh.

Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects the brain. A person with Autism has problems being social and fitting in, along with problems communicating and repetative behavioral patterns. Savants Syndrome is similar to autism, having delays and communication problems, but people with Savants have a special intelluctual gift mainly in the areas of math, arts, and music. No one knows the direct link between the two, but there is some relationship. A person with both Autism and Savants is Kim Peek. The original Rain Man, Peek has read over 12,000 books and remebers all of them. He can read two pages at once, rmember facts and trivia, and remembers any piece of music he has ever heard. Peek was born with severe brain damage, and the doctor told his father to forget about him because he would not be able to learn or walk. He has trouble doing the smallest thing like buttoning his shirt, but he can remember anything that he has read or heard.

Autism, or ASD, is a mental disorder that makes communication skills and social skills very difficult and is developed in early childhood. The symptoms can be things like avoiding eye contact, not responding to their names, not being able to hold a conversation, etc. Savants is a rare syndrome in which an individual has a talent and knowledge of one certain thing higher than anyone could imagine and is completely out of the norm. The skills of a savant usually have to do with memorization of detailed things like drawings, music, statistics, etc. Researchers believe that the link between Autism and Savants is because savants is usually formed because of a development delay in the brain so the human being may not be very social but has an extraordinary talent. Children with autism usually have an amazing memory, which is part of savants. Most Autistics have one main area of interest in which so does Savants, one area of interest that they know every detail to. Alonzo Clemons encountered a severe brain injury when he was a young boy and is not able to do things that a normal person can, such as feed himself. But Alonzo can sculpt any animal he sees, after seeing it only one time. Every detail is accurate, even the muscle fibers!

Savant Syndrome is a rare condition in which people with developmental delays of the brain display specific abilities that far surpass what is considered normal in said areas. About 50% of savants have autism, which leads scientists to believe there is a link between autism and savant syndrome. Savant syndrome develops due to delays in the brain, which is exactly what autism is autism, an underdeveloped brain. One well known savant with autism is Rachard Wawro. Richard was diagnosed with autism at the age of three, and began drawing with chalk as a toddler, but began using crayons when he was six years young. It was around this time that he began getting noticed by famous artists for his work. He had his first art exhibition at 17, and died of lung cancer in 2006. He was fifty four years old.

Autism is a neurological disorder in which the people who are affected by it have problems socially interacting with others, problems with verbal AND nonverbal communication, and and unusual amount of non activity or lack of interest in activities. Savant syndrome is known as a rare condition that people who have developmental delays of their brain or brain injury, show extreme capacities and abilities far from what the "normal" person could perform. It is known that over 50% of the people in the world today that are savants, are also autistic. The link between these two disorders is unknown. Though there are many speculations, none have been proven. Due to Savant syndrome making someone abnormal as to how much intellect they have, researchers have found much reason to believe it is linked with autism. Though one with autism may lack intellectually, one with both disorders may have an extremely high IQ. An example of someone with Savant syndrome and autism is Daniel Tammet. This man can say the number pi to 22,500 decimal places in 5 hours and learned one of the worlds most difficult languages in just 7 days. Though he shows such intellect, his autism makes day to day life hard. Things such as him not liking to go to the beach minutes from his house, where as most would take any chance to go, because there are so many pebbles - too many for him to count - making him feel uncomfortable. Though I feel there is certainly a link between the two, it has yet been found.

Autism is a disorder that can appear by age three. It impairs ones ability to form normal social relationships and skills. Savant syndrome is very rare a savant is a genius in a certain feild. Almost 50% of savants are autistic, because savants like autistics suffer from developmental delays. In savants this delay is replaced with an extreme ability in ability in another subject. For example Daniel Tammet is an autistic savant, with great math and language abilities.Daniel first became know when he recited from memory Pi to 22,514 decimal places on national Pi day. When he was four years old, Daniel had episodes of epilepsy in addition to his autism. This seemed to have brought about his savant abilities. Even though he appears normal he has said, he actually had to teach himself how to talk to and behave around people. However there is a big difference between Daniel Tammet and the other savants in the world, he can tell you how he does it.This makes him invaluable to scientists trying to understand savant syndrome. The exact link between autism and savant syndrome, has not yet been found (although scientists are working to find that link). However not all autistics have savants syndrome, and not all savants have autism.

Autism is a disorder of neural development characterized by impaired social interaction and communication, and also by restricted and repetitive behavior. Savant syndrome is a rare condition in which people with 'developmental delays' of the brain, maybe caused by a brain injury, demonstrate profound and prodigious abilities far in excess of those considered normal. There is some kind of link between autism and savant syndrome because most savants have autism as well. The cause of some autistic people having savant syndrome and vice versa is not known as of right now, only theories that scientists came up with exist. For example some of the theories are biological development such as genetics or frontal and temporal lobe damage. There is also a cognitive theory which explains the defects in function and abstract thinking. Dr. Allen Snyder explains to us that "sometimes the most amazing and mind blowing abilities of the human brain are revealed exactly when certain things go wrong with it". He also explains how every savant that has autism can directly focus on one specific aspect or interest to them and it is automatically stored in their memory, which gives them this indescribable abilities. One savant in this world is Leslie Lemke. He was born with many birth defects, he couldn't walk and he had to have his eyes removed. But he was adopted by a nurse that cared for him at the hospital and she taught him to walk. When he was 16 he developed his savant syndrome. He heard the piano song on the television, Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1. and right after he began to play it with no trouble at all. Leslie can hear any composed song only once and an reduplicate it perfectly. This gave him much fame as he traveled around the world playing concerts, until his health got severely worse. Personally I think this link between autism and savant syndrome is a gift from God in a way. He reveals things to us in crazy unexplainable ways.

Autism (ASD) is a range of complex neurodevelopment disorders, characterized by social impairments, communicating difficulties and restricting repetetive, and stereotyped patterns of behavior.
Savant Syndrome is when a brain has knowledge that far exceeds the ordinary. This can come from genetic reasons or can be due to a damage from the central nervous system.
Usually "Savant Syndrome" comes from a form of Autism. Not all Autistic victims carry the Syndrome of Savant, but some do. It is looked at by many as well as myself as a gift.
Savants usually suffer a development delay, but are compensated by a high intelligence in a certain area that far exceeds the norm.
Autism is usually the cause of Savant Syndrome, but Savant Syndrome can also come from diseases or brain injuries.
Savants are looked at by many as having "the gift of a genius".

Kim Peek, from Texas, passed away in 2009, but is known worldwide for his phenomenal and mind boggling knowledge of the "Revolutionary War", can quote all of Shakespeare's soliloquies as well as give extraordinary knowledge about NASA. He has all this information stored in his head that any normal person could not retain and then not forget, yet he could not do something as simple as drive a car. This shows how even though people with autism and the savant syndrome may have impairments in certain areas, does not mean they do not have an amazing gift from God.
